There is a potential for hazardous commuting conditions for
this evening's commute between 5 PM and 9 PM. A period of light
snow is POSSIBLE (a 30 percent chance) this evening across the
Washington metro area into central and southern Maryland with a
coating to around one-half inch of snow accumulation possible.
If this threat does materialize during this evening's rush-hour,
any untreated roads could quickly turn snow covered and slippery.
This could lead to dangerous traveling conditions.
If commuting this evening, be aware of the POSSIBILITY of
significant travel disruptions. Plan ahead by allowing for extra
travel time, and consider using public transportation and telework
options.

* WHAT...For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low
as 9 below zero expected.
* WHERE...Portions of DC, central, northeast, northern, and southern
Maryland, and northern and western Virginia.
* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 11 AM EST Thursday.
* IMPACTS...The cold wind chills as low as 9 below zero could result
in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and
hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these
temperatures. Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with
prolonged exposure. Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia
with prolonged exposure.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Additional Cold Weather Headlines are
expected at times through the end of the week as the region
remains in an Arctic airmass.

FOR THE TIDAL POTOMAC AND MD PORTION OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY.
Tidal Potomac River and Maryland portion of Chesapeake Bay. Forecasts of wave heights do not include effects of wind direction relative to tidal currents. Expect higher waves when winds are blowing against the tidal flow. Waves flat where waters are iced over. A reinforcing cold front will pass through tonight. Otherwise high pressure will remain south and west of the area through Friday. Small Craft Advisories may be needed tonight into Thursday. Freezing spray advisories are possible during periods of elevated winds this week. A coastal storm is also possible this weekend. Should it track close enough to the eastern seaboard, Gale Warnings would be possible for the waters this weekend into Monday.
